Potty Training Pirate!

What do you all think about potty training in the classroom? It is a fact, it has to happen, when and how are two separate questions....at least I thought they were...

In our school, we welcome parents who inquire about potty training. There are several factors involved with potty training. #1 being, "when should we start?", #2 "How do I begin this process with my 2year old/toddler?" and, finally, "How do we encourage our child to want to potty train?"

These are all reasonable questions, concerns regarding potty training and potty training at school and at home. What I will say is, get together with your management staff, teachers and all involved in this monumental process and devise a plan.

The best place to start is to make sure you encourage your families and support them in this huge en-devour. This is a huge step for their two or three year old child. Potty training signifies a huge step toward preschool stardom. Establish ground rules, support for the trainee (whether stickers, stamps, timers, prize boxes, rewards etc.) and stick to the plan. Make sure you are connecting with your families. Communicate every single day...successes and failures...Whether it is an inconvenience for you, it is a support and a huge hand for your families. After all, at the end of the day; you are here for your families and students and you want to support a larger system that has been established at home--

Your students will walk away feeling confident and supported and ready and willing to move up into their prekindergarten classroom. Let me know your thoughts!
